1 Who We Are
Tape2Tape is a mobile application developed and operated by Breakaway Apps. References to "we," "us," or "our" throughout this policy refer to Breakaway Apps.
Tape2Tape is a personal sports-statistics app that lets families track the game results, goals, saves, and season records of youth hockey players. The app is designed for personal, non-commercial use by families and is not affiliated with any hockey league or governing body.
2 Information We Collect
We collect two categories of information: account information you provide and statistics you enter.
2a. Account Information (optional)
Creating an account is optional. You may use Tape2Tape in offline mode without providing any personal information. If you choose to create an account for cloud sync, we collect:
- Email address – used only for account authentication and account recovery.
- Password – stored as a secure hash by Firebase Authentication; we never see your plaintext password.
We do not collect your name, phone number, date of birth, or payment information.
2b. Hockey Statistics You Enter
The app stores only the data you deliberately enter, including:
| Data type | Examples |
|---|---|
| Family identifiers | Last name (e.g., "Smith") |
| Player information | First name, position (skater / goalie), season year |
| Team information | Team name, division, coach's last name, season labels |
| Game records | Date, opponent name, score, result, goals, assists, shots, saves |
| Opponent rankings | Manually entered ranking numbers and division labels. You may optionally tap a link within the app to view rankings on myhockeyrankings.com for reference — the app does not send or receive any data from that site; you enter any figures yourself after viewing them. |
This information relates to youth hockey activity. It does not include government identifiers, financial data, health records, or precise geolocation.
2c. Automatically Collected Technical Data
Firebase, the platform underlying Tape2Tape, may automatically collect limited technical information such as device type, operating system version, IP address, and error logs. This information is collected by Google and governed by Google's Privacy Policy. We do not use this data to identify or profile individual users.
3 How We Use Your Information
We use your information solely to provide and maintain the Tape2Tape app. Specifically:
- Authentication – your email address is used to verify your identity and let you sign in across devices.
- Cloud sync – your statistics are stored in Firestore so you can access them from multiple devices or share them with family members.
- Offline access – a local cache is maintained on your device using the device's secure storage so the app works without an internet connection.
- App functionality – statistics are processed locally on your device to calculate totals, leaderboards, and season summaries.
We do not use your data for advertising, marketing, analytics profiling, or sale to third parties.
4 Data Storage & Security
Where your data is stored
Account credentials are stored in Google Firebase Authentication. Your statistics are stored in Google Cloud Firestore, a NoSQL cloud database. Both services are operated by Google LLC and store data in Google data centres, which may be located in the United States or other countries.
A local copy of your statistics is also cached on your device using AsyncStorage (secure device storage) so the app continues to function offline.
How your data is protected
- Data in transit is encrypted using TLS/HTTPS.
- Data at rest is encrypted by Google's infrastructure.
- Your statistics are only accessible to authenticated users with the correct credentials or a valid family invite code.
- Passwords are never stored or transmitted in plaintext.
5 Family Data Sharing
Tape2Tape includes an optional sharing feature that lets multiple family accounts collaborate on the same families, players, and teams. Participation is entirely voluntary.
Roles and permissions
When you share a family, player, or team, each person who joins is assigned one of the following roles:
- Owner — the account that created the family, player, or team. Owners have full control, including the ability to remove members, revoke access, and delete data.
- Member / Contributor — accounts that join via an invite code. Contributors can view and enter game data (such as goals, saves, and game results) but cannot delete the underlying family, player, or team, transfer ownership, or remove other members.
How sharing works
- A signed-in user can generate an invite code from the Settings or sharing screen. Only one active, unclaimed code exists at a time per family, player, or team — generating a new code replaces any prior unclaimed one.
- Anyone who enters a valid code is granted access according to the role described above. Their own separate families remain private and are not visible to the account that shared with them.
- The owner can view a list of everyone who currently has access, along with their role, from the sharing/members screen at any time.
Revoking access
Owners can revoke a specific person's access at any time from the sharing/members screen. Members and contributors can also leave a shared family, player, or team at any time from their own sharing/members screen, which has the same effect on their access as being removed by the owner. Once revoked, that account's access to shared data going forward is removed, though a device already connected to a live game or already holding a cached copy of the data on their device from before revocation may retain what it already has. Contact us (see Section 11) if you need help with a specific situation.
Live game tracking and shared visibility
During a live game, the person tracking the game can share the in-progress view with other contributors ("advisors"), who can watch the game update in real time and suggest goal or penalty details. Only people already sharing that team have visibility into a live game. Presence indicators may show which shared contributors are currently active in a team or game so collaborators know who else is viewing or tracking in real time.
What is shared
Only the statistics belonging to the shared family, player, or team — game records, rosters, and related stats — are shared. Your email address, password, and other account credentials are never shared with other members.
6 Third-Party Services
Tape2Tape uses the following third-party services:
| Service | Provider | Purpose |
|---|---|---|
| Firebase Authentication | Google LLC | Email & password account management |
| Cloud Firestore | Google LLC | Cloud storage for statistics and invite codes |
| Expo / React Native | Expo, Inc. | Mobile app framework; no data collection |
| myhockeyrankings.com | MyHockeyRankings.com | Optional external link for reference only. The app does not transmit or receive any data to or from this site — it simply opens the link in your browser. |
Google's data practices are governed by the Google Privacy Policy and Firebase Privacy and Security documentation. We are not responsible for the privacy practices of third-party services.
We do not integrate any advertising SDKs, analytics SDKs (e.g., Google Analytics), social login providers, or payment processors.
7 Data Retention
Your data is retained in Firestore for as long as your account exists or as long as you continue to use the app. Offline cached data persists on your device until you uninstall the app or clear app storage.
If you delete your account (see Section 8), we will delete your Firestore documents and Firebase Authentication record within 30 days of your request. Shared family documents that other users still have access to will not be deleted as part of account deletion.
Anonymised or aggregated data (if any) that cannot identify you may be retained indefinitely for internal operational purposes.
8 Your Rights & Choices
Regardless of where you live, we respect the following rights with respect to your personal data:
Access and portability
You can export all your statistics at any time using the Export backup feature in the app's Settings screen. The export produces a JSON file containing all your family data, games, and rankings.
Correction
You can edit any data you have entered directly within the app — family names, player details, game records, and team information are all editable.
Deletion
You can delete individual families, players, teams, or games within the app at any time. To delete your entire account and associated cloud data, contact us at the address in Section 11. We will process account deletion requests within 30 days.
Offline use (no account required)
You may use Tape2Tape without creating an account by selecting "Continue without account" on the sign-in screen. In offline mode, all data is stored exclusively on your device and is never transmitted to our servers.
Withdrawing consent
You may sign out of your account at any time from the Settings screen. Signing out stops all cloud synchronisation. Your local device cache is retained until you clear app storage or uninstall the app.
9 Children's Privacy
Tape2Tape is intended to be used by parents and guardians to track statistics for their children. The app is not directed at children under 13 as account holders. We do not knowingly collect personal information directly from children under 13.
Parents and guardians who use the app may enter their child's first name and hockey statistics. This information is stored as part of the parent's or guardian's account and is under their control. If you believe a child under 13 has created an account without parental consent, please contact us and we will delete the account promptly.
10 Changes to This Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time to reflect changes in the app's functionality or applicable law. When we do, we will revise the "Last updated" date at the top of this page.
For material changes, we will make reasonable efforts to notify you — for example, by displaying a notice within the app the next time you open it. Your continued use of Hockey Tracker after a change is posted constitutes your acceptance of the updated policy.
We encourage you to review this page periodically. Prior versions of this policy may be requested by contacting us.
